Maxwell Admits New Tour Launch Date Even Shocked Him: “I Was Like, ‘Really Guys?’”

[With his new cross-country Summer Tours 2017 run fully launched, R&B veteran Maxwell talks to SOHH about piecing together the nationwide stint and finding out it’d launch on his birthday.]

The summer tour was something that I didn’t even know was really going to happen. We were going to get back out there but I just didn’t know the exact days.

When I found out it was going to launch on my birthday I was like, ‘Really guys?’ It’s cool because at the end of the day I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate life than celebrating it with the people that made my life so amazing.

My entire muse came through the world that I’m about to face on this tour. Being with Mary J. Blige [on our winter 2016 tour] was great. I learned so much about warming up and learning about what needs to be done when preparing for shows like this because they can be pretty intense.

I’ve been kind of keeping it clean and pretty basic in terms of my life. I’ve just been working on music and preparing for the tour, rehearsing and hoping to give people what they want to see and hear.
