Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco might not be done with album-making after all. New reports claim the Chicago native may have announced the release date for his long-awaited DROGAS album.

According to music buzz, Fiasco recently lit up an Ohio concert crowd with a big album announcement.

According to Reddit user u/connercmu, Lupe told fans at a Cleveland show that he would still planned to release DROGAS and DROGAS light in 2017. “At his Cleveland show tonight, Lupe said he had to put out one more album to release himself from the Atlantic contract,” the Reddit user wrote. “He said he could never fully give himself to an album while with Atlantic, so the real DROGAS will be released after a ‘lite’ version with Atlantic on February 10th. Last week, footage surfaced of Lupe discussing his issues with the music industry.

“Never really got along with rappers, always hated music executives. Always. It was always big pieces of sh*t to me, I hated it. What I learned is that the music business is a really sh*tty place to be. I actually quit nine years ago. I was done. I was done. Once I did the song, ‘Kick, Push,’ – why don’t y’all be quiet? – I did this song called ‘Kick, Push,’ – listen, you guys have done so much for me throughout my career. Nah, don’t clap. Y’all have done so much for me. You’ve allowed me to send my sisters to private school. I got to buy a coupe – it’s because of my fans.”

A few days prior, Fiasco announced he would shelve any new album releases.

Some media outlets speculate controversial lyrics may have contributed to the sudden announcement.

Lupe’s sudden declaration of retirement comes a day after he released a new song, “N.E.R.D.,” a freestyle over J. Cole’s “Everybody Dies.” The song was controversial due to one lyric that many perceived to be anti-Semitic: “Artist gettin’ robbed for their publishing / By dirty Jewish execs that think his alms from the covenant.” (HNHH)
