Humvee Wants Their Coin, Sues Call of Duty Maker Activision

We reported yesterday that Activision’s latest version of their game Call of Duty brought in some major coin. Today (Nov. 10), we learn that AM General the makers of the military all-purpose vehicle the Humvee is suing Activision.

Well damn…

Definitely not the news Activision wants to be worried about right now, especially on the heels of such an amazing first weekend for Call of Duty: WWII.

Humvee

Reuters reports that AM General is suing Call of Duty’s publisher for using their vehicles in their game without their permission. In their lawsuit, AM General accuses Activision Blizzard Inc of making “billions of dollars” by using the Humvee and HMMWV trademarks in their games and toys.

The vehicle has seen plenty of action on real battlefields and on virtual ones in Call of Duty.

Call of Duty burst onto the scene in 2003 and has been the staple when it comes to the first-person shooter genre. Activision has moved over 250 million copies of the game they have brought in more than $15 billion in revenue.

For more than a year, AM General reportedly has been trying to reach out to Activision but they never responded. They are seeking compensatory, punitive, and triple damages from Activision.

So basically all Activision had to do was answer an email or a phone call, now it may cost them a huge chunk of that billion dollar profit.

Damn…

AM General firmly believes the Humvee was a huge part of the game’s success. They also claim Activision made people “believe” that they licensed the game or were involved with it.

Do you believe AM General is reaching here with their lawsuit?
