Exclusive: Shigeto – Detroit Part II (Ela Minus Remix)

After four long years, Shigeto finally returned with his new LP, The New Monday. In the lead up to the album’s release, the Ghostly International artist whetted fans appetite with “Detroit Part II,” a seven and half minute epic that cleverly fused the jazz and electronic elements from Detroit’s music scene into one cohesive, smooth tune. Now, after a mix or two, the producer’s tracks are in line for the remix treatment.

First up is the Colombian-born, Brooklyn-based artist Ela Minus’ take on Shigeto’s second ode to Detroit. An extended intro section adroitly molds the original’s mellow synth patches and saxophone flourishes into a slow burn of a track. About halfway through, Minus’ reproduction burrows into a rolling, undeniably danceable section — a testament to restrained, intelligent production carrying the track forward.

On being chosen to remix Shigeto, Ela Minus said,

Shigeto has been one of my favorites and biggest inspirations, both as a drummer and as a producer.

As a South American I felt like an outsider approaching “Detroit Pt. II”. I have nothing but love and respect for the Detroit scene and all the incredible music that has come (and continues to come) out of it. I focused on that admiration and approached the remix as an outsider’s ode to Detroit.

Doing this remix and opening this tour for him is an honor.
