DJs share their dismay over the repeal of Net Neutrality in the US

The United States became the biggest world power to begin dismantling its net neutrality in the early hours of December 14, with a narrow vote within the FCC leading to the decision to begin repealing Obama-era internet protections that guarantee equal and unfettered access to the internet for all. In doing so, according to new FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, “Broadband providers will have more incentive to build networks, especially to underserved areas,” and Telecom companies as a whole will be granted more power to enhance the internet experience for their users.

Push-back for the decision since its infancy has been ardent, especially among those who fear their livelihoods and access to information will be threatened by placing more power in corporate hands. DJs and producers fall on the aforementioned side of dissenters, with many iconic and smaller talents across the EDM spectrum taking to social media to express their concern over the FCC ruling.

It’s important to note that there is still slight hope for net neutrality’s survival — congress has the ability to overturn this decisioning before it becomes set in stone. Those looking to help encourage the continuation of net neutrality can express their upset on the FCC website, and use this tool to look up the email and phone number of their representatives.
