David Banner sees some silver lining in the cloud that is Donald Trump getting elected President, hear him out.
Donald Trump will be taking office on January 20, 2017 and a lot of people are dreading the countdown to that day. However, Mississippi rapper/producer/lecturer David Banner isn’t one of those people. Actually, he is offering a more optimistic look upon the event.
“This may be the best thing to ever happen to Black people,” Banner boldly said in a Facebook live session recorded earlier today.
Banner feels that the 2016 election lifted the veil of freedom in America and revealed that the country has never been fair, especially for Black people. He insists that Trump’s election will force Black people to become more politically involved and socially aware. He also said that had Hillary Clinton been elected, Black people probably would’ve continued to accept being pacified by the government. Throughout the video, he challenges his listeners, as well as himself, to do more to build up their communities and depend on themselves.
“I love yall with all my heart,” he says. “I honestly think this is going to be one of the best times in history because we about to change sh*t. At least I am, I don’t know what the f*ck y’all going to do.”
Banner’s remarks resemble those of Malcolm X’s when he was asked about the 1964 Presidential Election when Republican nominee Barry Goldwater ran a campaign eerily similar to Trump’s 2016 campaign. Goldwater, who was against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, was labeled a racist for many of his views. During the campaign, X was asked what he thought would happen if Goldwater was elected and he replied saying that a Goldwater presidency would force Black people to “face facts” and do for self. Fun fact, Hillary Clinton got her start in politics working for Goldwater.
